Why should you hire a plumber over a handyman or general contractor to replace your water heater?
- Licensed and insured
Without a plumbing license a general contractor or handyman is actually performing work illegally and can not pull a permit. If they ask you to pull the permits yourself say NO and do not let them perform the work. If their work fails they may not even carry insurance to cover property damaged caused by faulty installation, leaving you to possibly pay for all the damages.
We know the local codes. With a handyman or general contractor it will most likely never be up to code, leaving you with the potential for serious harm to you and your home. Venting a gas burning appliance requires special care and knowledge to run safely. Don’t put your family at risk from faulty or low quality work. You might save a few dollars with Mr. Handy-Man, but is it really worth the risk to you, your family and your home? You can’t put a price on the safety of you and your family.
If there is a problem you can count on us, we stand behind our work. Mr. General contractor, you may have to leave a voice mail, or worse their number is no longer in service. Don’t risk the aggravation, hire a professional and licensed plumber.
- Fast and Reliable
We install water heaters on a regular basis, we dream about installing them, we could even install them blind folded (but for safety reasons we don’t). By hiring a licensed professional plumber you won’t be without hot water for long. Our trucks carry everything needed to install a new water heater quickly, so no trips to the supply house an hour away, no ordering parts that take a week to ship, just hot water fast!
- Cost effectiveness
We install only high quality and trusted Bradford White water heaters. You can not buy these at a home improvement store. Bradford White only sells to licensed professionals. Since they come from a supply warehouse and not a big box store they are not special models like you would typically find in big box stores. Big box stores work with many manufactures to obtain lower priced models which might skip out on some critical features or use cheaper material to allow them to sell such items at a “everyday low price”. Or they might not even be manufactured by the brand name they say they are and instead are a “licensed product” manufactured by some other no name company. Both of these are extremely common in the big box store setting.
What to do if your water heater starts leaking
- Locate your main shut off or the shut off on the cold side of the water inlet of your water heater and shut it off.
- Shut the gas off to the water heater.
- If possible attach a hose to the bottom drain and run the hose to the lowest possible drain or outside and open the valve to drain the water heater to prevent further leaking.

Power Vented – High Efficiency and Money Saving
High efficiency never looked so good. Power vented water heaters put more of your hard earned money into the water they heat. With some having 90% or higher thermal efficiency. This means less wasted heat through exhaust. With lower exhaust temperatures PVC pipe can be used to vent these water heaters greatly increasing the flexibility of where they are installed. Some models may qualify for a NJ CLEAN ENERGY Rebate.
Power vented water heaters are an excellent choice for homes with multiple bath tubs requiring large amounts of hot water fast.
Conventional Atmospheric Gas – Affordable and Reliable
Conventional water heaters store water in a tank in capacities starting at 30 gallons. Gas or electric. Gas powered atmospheric water heaters are typically vented through your homes chimney, your furnace or boiler may also be vented with your water heater.
Typically the life span of a conventional is 10-15 years. The brand you choose plays a crucial role in the life expectancy of a water heater. We proudly install Bradford White water heaters. With a standard 6 year warranty, and an optional 10 year available.
Trust the pros at Price’s Plumbing to replace your water heater with a quality Bradford White water heater.
Conventional Electric – Affordable and Reliable
Conventional electric water heaters are pretty simple having almost no mechanical parts. Having one or two heating elements and a thermostat, operating at 120-240 volts and energy consumption from 1500 watts to 12,000 watts. Sizes range from small 2 gallon tanks for under your sink for fast quick hot water to 50 gallons. You will typically find electric water heaters in homes where natural gas service lines do not exist or in small commercial buildings where demand for hot water is at a minimum. They are very versatile with the ability to be installed almost anywhere. Warranties range from 1-10 years depending on the model.
Heat Pump Water Heaters – High Efficiency and Comfort
Energy standards have required the phase out of standard electric water heaters above 50 gallons. For homes or businesses that require large capacity water heaters with restrictions on gas burning appliances or lack of service lines, heat pump electric water heaters are available. A heat pump is basically an air conditioner that works backwards. They also contain standard heating elements for back up and to operate in hybrid mode. They consume significantly less energy than their ancestors and actually dehumidify a basement or a duct kit is installed if cool air is not wanted in the area the water heater is installed. They can operate in temperatures as low as 35 degrees F and as high as 120 degrees F making them an ideal alternative to multiple electric water heaters or having gas lines run. They also qualify for a NJ CLEAN ENERGY Rebate. Sizes range from 50-80 gallons. With a standard 6 year warranty, and an optional 10 year available.
Indirect Water Heaters
Indirect water heaters are a type of water heater that uses hot water from your homes boiler to heat the water in the tank for use at your faucets and shower. Since boilers carry water that does not get replaced often it becomes “non-potable” meaning not safe for drinking or bathing. Indirect water heaters have a inlet for the boilers hot water, it then travels through a tight coil of pipe inside the water heater making indirect contact with your tap water or referred to as domestic water heating it to the desired temp. Ideally if your boiler is old it is best to upgrade to a new boiler that has a domestic hot water heat exchanger built in, these are more energy efficient and save space.
